Interview With Elizabeth Gilbert
This is a really nice Q & A with only Liz speaking. Although I’ve not read her books, my cousin lovvves Eat Pray Love …
And the talks I’ve stumbled upon lately with her –I just love! She’s down to earth. There’s something so goofy and normal about her. As she says, she’s a sample of a 21st century (white) woman, educated in a certain way, brought up on a farm and had instilled certain norms within her . . .
I can identify, as a white woman, MN farming background, just on her particular winding path; that of an artist with enough privilege to take time off to express something purely for the passion of doing so. I hope to help encourage EVERYONE to get the help they need anywhere they can… And I am “into” extreme-self-care right now. My intent is to encourage extreme-self-care for ALL.
The LOVE, the understanding, the SUPPORT, the HEALING. You deserve it.
Insist upon it. Don’t stop until you find it. Self-Esteem. Autonomy. (whatever “it” is) . . . I believe it to be real “self love”, the love of your spirit to your spirit, conjoined with Spirit ~ the One the All. Where the spirit overpowers the ego. Or rather maybe, where the ego falls away.
Enjoy, as this talk goes on, to hear Liz “instinctively speak” her answers (it certainly seems she speaks mostly off-the-cuff)…
How she seems to “naturally” walk her own path, she mentions of past struggling here or there, but how she’s forged her own way and stayed on her point –here and now– you can see, feel, that she’s done a lot of “work.” Self work. I believe we’d all be way better off if we were devoted to self-work. Actualization of our Self, (in and to) the Highest Good, of course!
We may think that this blissful-looking type of living takes an huge amount of privilege. Education is a privilege. A loving peaceful supportive home & family is a privilege. Being able to wake up each day and work toward solutions is a great mindset to have. Enthusiasm opens doors… meditation opens doors… showing up and being GRATEFUL for every leetle last experience opens doors. I oft enjoy the space of peace and contemplation, as that door opened up to me . . .
There is absolutely no doubt in my mind, that Liz’s intent to be good for others is coming through, by the simple act of her showing up and being herself. I think that’s her ‘service’. I look really forward to reading her books! Ooooh, the new one on “marriage” . . . exciting. 🙂
Even though some people make it look easy, it only looks that way because they’ve practiced! They may have had to fight pretty hard to get where they are: that place that looks so easy to ‘be’. . .
Practice makes perfect!
. . . Practice being yourself . . .
We all have the right to be, or do the equivalent ~ to what someone we admire has done. It’s good to be inspired by others, and hopefully learn from their mistakes when possible. One can identify with them and let their stories inform the self. Resonance.
Who do you resonate with (certainly does not have to be someone ‘famous’ 😉 )
We likely have the responsibility! To inspire the world by bringing our self to the field! Liz is a woman who has done that: she’s showing up and doing what she loves. She’s clearly accepted that she’s an evolving human. Her showing up to something she loved made stuff. Made stuff happen. Some pretty big stuff.
If you still don’t know what you love, then your job is to keep asking. If you’re having to do something you hate, pray for a way to do what you love. Keep knocking. The Divine & your Higher Self will show you the way.
Be gentle and forgiving with yourself today.
This prayer comes to mind, adapt it, make your own, or find one you resonate with:
Dear Higher Self, God, Angels:
Please show me the way. One right step at a time . . . One small right action at a time.
Show me clearly and gently which doors are open to me, and where to walk through.
Please give me clear guidance to the opportunities that are in alignment with my Highest Good, so that I may give and receive the gifts life has to offer.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!
“Follow your bliss.
If you do follow your bliss,
you put yourself on a kind of track
that has been there all the while waiting for you,
and the life you ought to be living
is the one you are living.
When you can see that,
you begin to meet people
who are in the field of your bliss,
and they open the doors to you.
I say, follow your bliss and don’t be afraid,
and doors will open
where you didn’t know they were going to be.
If you follow your bliss,
doors will open for you that wouldn’t have opened for anyone else.”
